Dear Mothers...
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for My sake shall find it. Matt. 16:25
A woman who ministers to children is a mother. Surely there are none exempt and surely we're never done. Motherhood is the essence of the Gospel. It is dying to myself. It is laying down my life for the children around me, whether mine or someone else's. It is so much more than biology.1 Nothing is about me anymore. Nothing. It is submission of my will. It is a constant pour-out, a giving when I feel I have nothing left to give. It is losing my life. Yet if our eyes are on our Lord will we notice the loss?2
This does not mean I am a door mat. Oh no! This means living God's word3 . We are commanded to love. Love is sacrifice. Love is commitment. Love is unconditional. Love is action. Love is the continual prayer to be tuned into my children's needs and the choosing to act accordingly.4 Sacrifice may mean doing more. It may mean doing less. It is disciplining myself in whatever way for the future good of my child. Impure motives or unresolved baggage are sniffed out by our children very quickly and result in a myriad of problems5 . Some mental, social, physical, or academic struggles of our children are rooted in self-centered parenting.
If what we call Love, doesn't take us beyond ourselves, it is not really love. -Oswald Chambers
Am I evolutionary in my approach to the care of children? Do I react or create? I must create my world so my children can fly. The goal is not to create a perfect world, but a better world, where my children learn to lay down their lives for each other.
We are Christian's! There is power!6 Pray with them. Pray for them. Pray over them. Memorize scripture with them. Implant the Word into them for it is able to save their souls7 . Sing! Fill their minds with good things. Thoughts attribute to our physical and mental health. Teach them how to think.8
Mother with all your heart! Friends, this is eternal! We are mothering sons and daughters of God! We are mothering the next generation who will lay down their lives for the children around them! Yet, we must be motivated by love and not fear. We give our everything while simultaneously laying our children in the hands of our trusted Father.
Nothing is more important than our homes. If we are to be a Christian we must nurture those God puts on our path today. Let me lose my life to the people around me, and then, come what may, I have found the abundant life and my joy will be full.
